Elevate your afternoon tea time with a slice of homemade rustic apple pie paired with a soothing matcha green tea latte. This pairing is a match made in culinary heaven, offering the warm, spiced flavors of the pie with the creamy, earthy tones of the matcha.

A slice of comfort and a sip of serenity.

Ingredients for the Apple Pie

  • 1 homemade or store-bought pie crust
  • 6 cups of thinly sliced apples (a mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp works well)
  • 3/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Optional: A handful of walnut pieces for topping

Ingredients for the Matcha Green Tea Latte

  • 1 teaspoon of high-quality matcha powder
  • 2 ounces of hot water (not boiling)
  • 8 ounces of milk (any variety)
  • Honey or sweetener of choice, to taste

Instructions for the Apple Pie

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss to coat the apples evenly.

  3. Place the pie crust into a pie dish and fill with the apple mixture. Dot the top with butter.

  4. Cover with a second pie crust or create a lattice top. Trim any excess crust, and crimp the edges to seal.

  5. Brush the top of the pie with the beaten egg and sprinkle with granulated sugar if desired.

  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.

  7. If the edges brown too quickly, cover them with foil.

  8. Remove from oven and let cool before serving.

Instructions for the Matcha Green Tea Latte

  1. Sift the matcha powder into a mug to remove any lumps.

  2. Add the hot water and whisk vigorously until the matcha is fully dissolved and a light foam appears on the surface.

  3. Heat the milk until it is steaming and then froth it, using a frother or by shaking it in a jar.

  4. Pour the frothed milk into the mug with the matcha, holding back the foam with a spoon to top off the drink.

  5. Sweeten with honey to your liking and gently stir.

There's no better way to enjoy a quiet moment than with a slice of apple pie that whispers tales of autumn harvests and a latte that brings the tranquility of a Japanese tea ceremony. Take a break, indulge in the rich flavors, and let this classic dessert and its modern tea twist soothe your soul.

Remember to adjust the sweetness of both the pie and the matcha latte to your personal preference, and enjoy the perfect balance of flavors.
